We do not collect, receive, or have any access to your information. Your data stays on your own devices, and — if you use iCloud sync — in your own private iCloud account. These apps send us nothing, and we cannot read any of it.
What this policy covers. This is the policy for the Keeldragger Offshore Toolkit apps for iPhone, iPad and Mac. There is also a web edition at app.offshore.keeldragger.com, which is covered by its own separate policy. It works the same way by default — everything stored on your own device — but it additionally offers an optional Keeldragger account for syncing between browsers, where data is encrypted on your device before it is sent and we hold only ciphertext we cannot read. The apps described here do not use that account. If a future version of these apps offers it, this policy will describe it here before that version is available to you.
These apply now and to every future version of the app:
The app saves what you enter so it is there the next time you open it: your checklist dispositions and comments, your vessel details and boat systems, your float plan (including crew details, itinerary and photos), and your emergency cards. This is written to the app's private storage area on your device.
Nothing. The app has no accounts of ours, no sign-in to us, and no analytics, tracking, or advertising software. No server of ours receives anything from these apps, and we get no information about you or how you use them. We cannot see your checklist, your vessel details, your float plan, your emergency cards, or your photos — including anything you sync through iCloud.
The app can keep your information in step across your own iPhone, iPad and Mac using your iCloud account. On a device already signed in to iCloud this is switched on by default, and the app tells you the first time and offers to switch it off. You can turn it on or off at any time under About.
When sync is on, your data is stored in the private database of your own iCloud account, under your Apple ID. This is your personal iCloud storage, in the same sense as your photos or notes. It is not sent to us. No server of ours takes part in it, we hold no copy, and we have no technical means to read it. Apple's handling of your iCloud data is governed by Apple's own privacy policy and your agreement with them.
Turning sync off stops further syncing and leaves your data on the device. To remove what is already in your iCloud, you can delete the app's data from your iCloud storage in your device settings.
The app is fully usable offline with sync switched off — nothing about it requires a connection.
iCloud is the only sync these apps currently offer. If a later version adds the optional encrypted Keeldragger account described in the web edition's policy, it will be opt-in, and this policy will describe it before that version reaches you.
If you attach photos — of your vessel, your crew, or a checklist item — the app asks your device for permission to access the photos you choose. Those images are copied into the app's own storage on your device. They are never sent to us. If iCloud sync is on, they are also stored in your own private iCloud account so they appear on your other devices.
When you export a Readiness Report or Float Plan as a PDF, the file is created on your device and saved where you choose. If you then email, message, print, or share that PDF, it travels according to the service you use. Please remember that a float plan normally contains personal details such as crew names, passport numbers, and emergency contacts — share it only with the people you intend to have it.
You remain in control of your information. You can clear individual entries in the app, or remove everything the app has stored by deleting the app from your device. If you used iCloud sync, you can also delete the app's iCloud data from your device settings. We hold no copy of any of it, so there is nothing for us to delete and no request you need to make of us.
The app is a general-purpose tool for sailors, is not directed at children, and collects no information from anyone.
If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted on this page with a new date, and the version of the app it applies to will be noted at the top.
