Topside Painting

This is the before shot--taken when I first purchased Tartan 27 #468 in October, 2001.

Another before shot.

Another before shot.

First coat of paint applied. The topside paint is Interlux Toplac. I applied 3 coats total via the roll and tip method (sanding between coats). The hull was primed with Interlux 404/414 epoxy primer.

Sanding in between coats. Unfortunately, I do not have pictures of the work-in-progress. The hull was chalky. It had lots of little pits in them. I wouldn't call them blisters because there was no void. There were also a number of gouges where the previous owner had practiced docking maneuvers. I would estimate approximately 80 hours worth of sanding and filling. The larger gouges and pits were faired with West System epoxy. For the most part, I used an orbital sander and sanded the hull with progressively smaller grit until 320. Once the hull was sanded and smooth, I applied 3 coats of Interlux 404/414 epoxy primer (sanding between coats).

Walk-around inspection--admiring the work.
